Unbong Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients

Since 2018, the Korea Genome Organization (KOGO) has annually honored scientists for their outstanding research achievements in genomics with the Unbong Lifetime Achievement Award. This award was established with funds donated by former President Hyen Sam Kang, who served as the organization’s president in 2001, through the Unbong Kang Hyen Sam Commemorative Foundation.

Awardees deliver an award lecture equivalent to a keynote address at the International KOGO Annual Conference and publish a research or review paper in Genomics & Informatics

Rising Star Award Recipients

The Rising Star Award, newly established in 2024, honors early-career scientists who demonstrate outstanding research enthusiasm and innovative approaches, pioneering new paths in genomics research.

• Prize: 4,000,000 KRW
• Eligibility: Early-career scientists (assistant/associate professors, senior researchers) with at least 3 years of membership in the Korea Genome Organization (including periods as a regular or student member)

Future Leader Award Recipients

The Future Leader Award, newly introduced in 2024, recognizes the academic excellence of early-career scientists, highlighting their limitless potential as future leaders in genomics research.

• Prize: 2,000,000 KRW
• Postdoctoral fellows/research professors (within 3 years of earning a Ph.D.), who are regular or student members of the Korea Genome Organization
• Sponsors: DNA Link / Macrogen / Theragen Bio

KOGO Lifetime Achievement Award in Disease Genomics

The KOGO Lifetime Achievement Award in Disease Genomics honors outstanding research achievements in disease genomics, recognizing contributions to the advancement of genomic research in Korea. This award was established in 2024 and first presented in 2025.
Awardees deliver an award lecture equivalent to a keynote address at the KOGO Winter Symposium and publish a research or review paper in Genomics & Informatics.

• Prize: 5,000,000 KRW
• Eligibility: Mid-career scientists: Professors or senior researchers, Individuals who have contributed to the development of the Korea Genome Organization as executives or steering committee members, Regular members of the Korea Genome Organization for at least 5 years
